Unions Tasmania Secure Jobs campaign

The Australian Education Union took part in a major national campaign to address the spread of casual, contract and other forms of insecure work in Australian workplaces, including schools.

Throughout September AEU representatives took to all corners of the state visiting schools to highlight and find effective solutions to the spread of insecure work conditions across Tasmania.

More than one in four workers in Australia are now in insecure work with no access to sick leave, annual leave or other basic entitlements.

People with insecure work can’t plan their lives, struggle to pay their rent or mortgages, always worry if they’ll have enough to pay the weekly bills. Having a secure job is connected to so many basic things – mental health, food, housing.

The Government can take action to restore job security for millions of workers. Stronger laws that protect workers’ security should be a workers’ right.
