TAFE Organiser Simon Bailey reports on the TAFE Teachers’ EB, Executive’s first meeting of the year, new Reps and more…
TAFE TEACHERS’ EB: UPDATE MARCH 2017
The TasTAFE Teaching Staff Industrial Agreement 2014 expired on 28th of February 2017 and teachers received their last pay rise of two per cent on 1 March 2016.
Negotiations with the employer are now underway but the process has been frustrating and progress very slow.
Our AEU negotiating team consists of Simon Bailey AEU TAFE Division Vice President, AEU State Manager Roz Madsen, Pat Forward Federal TAFE Secretary, AEU. TAFE Executive requested that Pat be part of the negotiation team due to her wealth of knowledge and experience with Agreements in the TAFE sector and we are very lucky to have her involved.
- We lodged our AEU Log of Claims with the employer in September 2016.
- There have been a number of negotiating meetings in 2017 but we are yet to have in writing, and in the appropriate form, the employer’s Counter Claim.
- Progress has been very slow and further meetings are scheduled.
TAFE Executive’s first meeting of 2017 was on 24 February in Campbell Town. All nominations for positions, including that of Damian Von Samorzewski for President, were accepted at the meeting.[table “22” not found /]
There’s still a vacancy for a sub-branch secretary at Drysdale and an Executive member position vacant for the LINC membership. If you’re interested in either of these positions, contact Simon firstname.lastname@example.org
A number of members have stepped up to be workplace Reps in the South, which is great, but we’re still looking for new Reps from all regions.[table “23” not found /]
The plan is now to create a network of Reps on each campus so that they can support each other. Those Reps will then be supported by the TAFE Organiser and Sub-Branch Secretaries and TAFE Executive.
NORTH AND NORTH WEST VISITS
TAFE Organiser Simon Bailey will be in the North of the state next Thursday and Friday and the North West on the 20th and 21st of March. If you wish to request a workplace visit – send Simon an email email@example.com
