There are a variety of tools and resources available to assist schools to become more supportive of sexual diversity and to promote student wellbeing for everyone.

National Safe Schools Framework

The National Safe Schools Framework from provides the overarching document for all schools with a vision and a set of guiding principles for safe and supportive school communities that also promote student wellbeing and develop respective relationships. A range of supporting resources can be found at the Safe Schools Hub. The Hub provides school communities, teachers, school leaders, students, parents and specialist professionals with a range of safe school strategies.

Safe Schools Coalition Australia

Safe Schools Coalition Australia is a national coalition of organisations and schools working together to create safe and inclusive school environments for same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse students, staff and families. It is funded by the Australian Government and convened nationally by the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA).

Safe Schools Coalition Australia offers a suite of free resources and support to equip staff and students with skills, practical ideas and greater confidence to lead positive change and be safe and inclusive for same sex attracted, intersex and gender diverse students, staff and families. The program works together with individual schools to tailor support that meets the needs of their community.

Wear It Purple

Wear It Purple is a student lead initiative that supports sexuality and gender diverse (i.e. “rainbow”) young people to be proud of who they are. The organisation believes that every young person is unique, important and worthy of love and that no one should be subject to bullying, belittlement or invalidation. The organisation co-ordinates an annual Wear It Purple Day. Schools and workplaces are able to register their support of the day and organise an event to show their support of rainbow youth.

Working It Out
Working It Out provides resources, counselling, education programs, and information sessions for students. This includes the current national program by the Safe Schools Coalition.
