Your Union negotiating team met with DOE last week but they are still offering nothing new to address workloads, no in-class support for students who need it and nothing that would shift Tasmanian teachers from being the lowest paid in the country. They have also offered little to nothing at PSUWA and TAFE negotiations.
The Hodgman government has had a whole summer to come to the table with an offer that respects and values educators and staff and eases your workloads and they have delivered nothing on key issues.
You have the right to be angry. Your Executive met last night and decided to call statewide member stop work meetings in your workplace on Monday 4th February.
- This day (4th Feb) is a student-free day for primary, secondary and district schools.
- Meetings will run for a maximum of 30 minutes.
- Principals will be asked to schedule the meeting into the day.
- Meetings will be held on site, at your workplace and facilitated by your union reps.
If you are a Rep, make sure you’re ready for the meeting by attending Reps training Thursday 31st January at 10am or 2pm in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport, or you can access the training remotely through Zoom. Register here.
If you’re interested in becoming a workplace rep, you can speak to your local organiser or contact firstname.lastname@example.org, and ensure a rep election happens when school returns.
Purpose of the Meetings
The purpose of the stop work meetings will be to update all members on the negotiations. We would like for you to be able to consider a new improved offer, but if the government fails to bring anything to the table before then you may be joining with other members to decide on escalated industrial action.
We know the first days and weeks back at school are a busy time, but if members don’t take action, the government has made it clear they will not move.
We held a media conference today announcing the actions, you can read our media release here.
Let’s make 2019 the year we win the respect, recognition and conditions you deserve!
