Free2Be?: Exploring the Schooling Experiences of Australia’s Sexuality and Gender Diverse Secondary School Students
This report details the findings from a 2013 nationwide survey of sexuality and gender diverse Australian secondary school students that explored the question whether school is a place where it is safe to be yourself. It also investigated links between students’ reported school climate and various measures of their school wellbeing and associated academic outcomes.

From blues to rainbows: Mental health and wellbeing of gender diverse and transgender young people in Australia
This report brings together statistical data and stories from 200 young people (aged 14-21) from every state and territory who identify as gender diverse. The results demonstrate the diverse identities and experiences of these young people, and emphasises the importance of supporting gender diverse, trans* and intersex young people so that they feel safe and welcome in all parts of their community, and can reach their full potential.

Growing up Queer: Issues facing young Australians who are gender variant and sexuality diverse 
The report investigates issues facing young Australians who are gender variant and sexually diverse. The findings of this study overwhelmingly highlight the serious impact of homophobia and transphobia, particularly considering that 42% of those surveyed had thought about self-harm and/or suicide – making LGBTIQ young people around six times more likely to consider taking their own life than their heterosexual peers. Comparing Trans-Spectrum and Same-sex Attracted Youth: Increased risks, increased activisms
Jones & Hillier compares a group of 91 trans-spectrum youth from the study to “cisgender” same-sex-attracted peers. Comparisons are made on topics including identity disclosure and support; experience of abuse; suicide and self-harm; and school experiences.
