By January 1st 2017, teachers working in schools will need to have Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) – previously referred to as the Working with Children Check. Teachers will need to add their RWVP number to their Teacher Registration record. For anyone else, such as Teacher Assistants, the registration deadline is 1 September 2016.

RWVP registration opened for teachers on May 1st 2016 and we recommend that teachers, if they have not already done so, apply as soon as possible. The RWVP process can take up to six weeks to be completed, so leaving this until late in the year may result in a teacher not holding current Teacher Registration for the start of 2017. The TRB is clear that without a RWVP number Teacher Registration will not be current. Without current Tasmanian Teacher Registration, a DoE teacher cannot be paid.

The DoE will pay the cost of RWVP for all fixed term and permanent school-based staff for the first cycle (three years). School staff who have already paid for RWVP as volunteers must also register as employees and the difference in cost is paid by the DoE. The cost of having paid as a volunteer is not redeemable and the DoE simply pays the difference to upgrade to employee status.

DoE staff who paid upfront for the RWVP as an employee can be reimbursed for the cost of this by the DoE. The contact officer for reimbursements is Lara Reason
