We elect our leaders from within our membership, so our representatives understand our profession and the issues that matter to educators.
Our union subs help to fund our statewide team, who provide research, advice, resources and support that go right back into building a stronger AEU Rep network, stronger sub-branches, and a stronger union. By educators, for educators.

Branch Executive are working educators, elected by and from our fellow educators.
Strategic decision-making, branch governance and the employment of staff are among the responsibilities of these elected AEU leaders.
There are 10 elected positions on Branch Executive:
Our Branch President, four Deputy Presidents (the Presidents of each of our four sectors, plus six general Branch Executive members). Elections for these positions are held every three years.
Every workplace where AEU members work is its own sub-branch – every sub-branch can be an active voice in our Branch Executive by submitting a motion on behalf of your sub-branch.
AEU members at your school/college/TAFE campus can put forward motions to each Branch Executive meeting to consider or vote on!
This could be about an issue important to you, the strategic direction, campaigns or rules of the union, or a cause or issue you think the AEU should have a stake in!

Branch Council is the supreme decision making body of the AEU.
Councillors are AEU members, elected by other AEU members! They’re your representatives, so keep in touch!
