We’ve had a number of exciting staff changes within our Branch recently which are part of the Organisational Change process currently underway.

At its meeting last month in Launceston, Branch Council unanimously signed off on our union’s new three-year plan, strategic framework and staff structure. Decisions made at Branch Council were after an independent organisational review, which was followed by consultation and feedback involving members, staff and stakeholders.

The external organisational review was endorsed by Branch Executive in recognition of the fact that our union is operating in a rapidly changing world and business as usual will no longer deliver the outcomes members seek nor ensure financial security into the future.

The Review gave us a roadmap of how to reshape our union into one that puts members at the centre and builds power to meet future challenges and seize opportunities.
ORGANISING TEAM STAFF UPDATE

Terri Coombes has recently been appointed to the position of Southern Schools Organiser and will be assisting members in schools and colleges for the remainder of 2017.

Terri has an extensive teaching background at Illawarra Primary School where she recently combined classroom teaching duties with an AST role. She previously worked as a Teacher Assistant before entering the teaching profession.

Adam Clifford has recently been appointed to the position of Lead Organiser. He will be implementing organisational change initiatives with our Organising team to ensure we are able to grow our membership, develop our workplace representatives, build power and together achieve more for educators. Adam will retain the New Educators portfolio and will continue as elected Deputy President of the DoE Division until February, 2018. Adam was previously the Southern Schools Organiser. Prior to that he was a DoE PiTE Scholarship holder, teacher at Rokeby Primary School, support teacher with Elizabeth College’s Athlete Development hockey program and an AEU Branch Councillor. Adam will build on the work of Matt Brown, the previous Lead Organiser, who resumes his position as the Northern Schools Organiser.

Kathryn Lee is now Support Staff Organiser, facilitating the Lab Tech and Teacher Assistant working parties and identifying and developing women activists. Simon Bailey, our TAFE Organiser, has had his contract extended to the end of the year.

Andrew Butler has finished his secondment as the Year 11 and 12 Schools Project Officer and returns to his position at the Huonville High Trade Training Centre. Andrew has used his extensive teaching background at Claremont College and Huonville High School to support teachers working in this emerging sector. We congratulate Andrew for delivering targeted representation, advice and support to members and we look forward to his continued contributions as a Branch Councillor and Executive member.
