Molesworth ‘Elemen-tree’ School

Molesworth Primary students branched out their learning for National Tree Day.

Classes of students last Term took part in a day of learning and activities at Molesworth Primary, where kids learnt about all things trees.

Eight-year-old Molesworth Primary student Adam said he felt proud to be helping the environment.

“I learnt that when trees are chopped down, new trees often get planted,” he said.

“It’s important to plant trees so animals like birds and possums have habitats. I now know that trees are important for us so that we have warmth and air to breathe.”

His classmate Breah said she learnt new plants “need a lot of dirt put around them to help them grow”.

Molesworth Primary teacher Megan Jacobson said the tree-planting day was in-line with school values.

“At Molesworth we love connecting to our beautiful surroundings and we take so much inspiration from nature,” she said.

“The kids are so engaged and full-of-wonder about what they see every day.

“We planted lots of wattle trees, bottle brushes and other native trees to the area. We hope the kids can come back, maintain and watch the growth of the trees in years to come.”

Ms Jacobson said at the end of the tree planting day, each student was given a tree to plant at home.
