Log of Claims – time to have your say!

It’s time to have your say on your Log of Claims.

Over the next fortnight, all AEU members covered by the Teachers Agreement will have an opportunity vote on your proposed Log of Claims, either at a sub-branch meeting organised by your AEU Workplace Rep, or virtually!

We’ve gathered input from more than 2000 AEU members over two years, with your solutions to fix the workload crisis in our classrooms.

This bold agenda for change has already been endorsed by your elected AEU Branch Council and by the 2025 AEU Reps Conference – now it’s over to members to endorse the plan.

We’ve got a heap of resources to help you get to know your Log of Claims before you vote! So don’t skip this!

Our Branch President has prepared a quick video walkthrough that covers the basics!

What is a Log of Claims?
Your Log of Claims is your agenda for bargaining. It’s the list of collective demands that union members have decided you want to see in your next collective union agreement and it covers everything from pay rises to new/improved rights and conditions.

What you need to know
about your Log of Claims!

Your Log of Claims isn’t designed to explain exactly how each new right or condition will work, because it’s all up for negotiation with the Government as part of the bargaining process.

After negotiation, the final EBA will explain exactly what your rights are but it won’t explain all the nuts and bolts of how it works in reality.

It’s the EBA’s job to clearly explain your rights, and then it’s DECYP’s job to figure out the processes so you get what you’re entitled to.

In your Log of Claims, it’s enough to let the Government know what rights you want to add or improve.

We don’t need to nail down exactly how everything will work right now – first, we need to know if the Government is even willing to consider it… then if they’re not, we campaign even harder!

We love detail-oriented people! Our Log of Claims is a summary, but if you’re keen to get into the nitty gritty here’s where it happens! During negotiations, the AEU’s Bargaining Reference Group will meet regularly to discuss the details, arguments and counterproposals.

When needed, they’ll send questions or seek direction from our member Advisory Groups – which are member-led groups that meet to discuss their profession, unique circumstances or lived experience – from ESS to isolated schools to LGBTIQA+ members!

Anyone can be involved in an advisory group or express interest in being a part of our Bargaining Reference Group! Click the button below to see what’s happening and get involved!

If you have any questions about the Log of Claims or if you’re keen to learn more about the bargaining process, please get in touch.

In union,
