AEU Tasmanian State Manager Roz Madsen said:

The Government has announced school closures half an hour before a meeting with the Premier Will Hodgman which could have averted the action.

Teacher and other public sector union negotiators are due to meet with the Premier at 10am this morning yet in an extraordinary move, the Education Minister has already announced school closures.

It shows that Will Hodgman was never serious about negotiations and hell bent on closing schools as part of political game playing.

Will Hodgman has chosen disruption and school closures over working with teachers on workload solutions and quality education.

Teachers have been given no chance to consider any potential counter offer from the Government and avert action.
