The annual AEU Federal Women’s Conference was held last weekend in Melbourne.

The Tasmanian contingent of Heather Griffin (Executive member and Rep) and Alison Jales (dynamo Rep!) was led by Branch President Helen Richardson.

There were 80 delegates and observers who had the privilege to hear the personal journeys of some amazing women from around Australia. The theme of the conference was ‘Respect’ and sessions over the two days focused on insecure work, sexism, ageism, occupational violence and whole of school approaches to respectful relationships.

The Conference developed a five-year Gender Equity Plan to be presented for endorsement by Federal Executive.

The ‘Tassie team’ was so inspired by what they heard at the conference that they want to organise an event for AEU women next year! Watch this space…
