Unions Tasmania are hosting memorial services in Hobart and Launceston to commemorate International Workers’ Memorial Day.
IWMD is recognised internationally on the 28th of April. It is a day of remembrance and action for workers killed or injured at work as well as an opportunity to renew calls for safe workplaces. In Tasmania, there have been more than 5 workplace deaths each year since 2012. No-one should die at work.
We also take the time on International Worker’s Memorial Day to thank the police, emergency and medical personnel who work so hard to save lives and recognise their courage in the face of trauma and loss.
Hobart: 28 April 12:00pm–12:30pm, Parliament Lawns
Launceston: 28 April, 8.00am, Workers’ Memorial Park, Elizabeth Gardens (near UTAS Stadium). Following the service there will be a BBQ Breakfast.
