Education Support Personnel (Support Staff)
Support hard-working education support personnel to deliver better support and education to every Tasmanian student.
Join the campaign to lift learning for every child
Here is what ESP members can achieve in union.
Keep our best education support personnel and allied health professionals, and attract more, by lifting wages to be competitive with other states and territories and keep pace with cost of living.
Recognise the importance and professionalism of Teacher Assistants and other Education Support Personnel by reducing the time they are stood down without pay and ensuring they have secure jobs they can rely on.
Ensure tools of work are provided without cost to staff, such as Working With Vulnerable People checks and laptop computers.
Improve access to Professional Learning for support staff and allied health professionals to maintain and improve the level of support provided to students.
Attract and retain quality professionals at isolated schools with targeted incentives so remote students aren’t disadvantaged.
Increased in-class support and professional support staff such as Teacher Assistants, Education Support Specialists, Social Workers and Speech and Language Pathologists.
Establish class size limits that ensure students and staff are safe in class.
Ensure the critical health care work of Teacher Assistants is recognised and paid appropriately.
Recognise the central role of libraries and laboratories in schools by employing adequate technicians and recognising their qualifications.

As a College Laboratory Technician and fellow ESP member I am well aware that sometimes we can feel invisible or forgotten but let me tell you that you have a voice, a very loud voice and are truly recognised as equal and valued members of our Union and in our workplaces. Not only is our voice loud, it is getting louder and is backed by all our comrade DoE and TAFE teachers and our truly amazing AEU Tas Branch staff.
