Supporting a Voice to Parliament for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Earlier this year, following active engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, the AEU Federal Conference accepted the invitation extended in the Uluru Statement of the Heart.
After over 65,000 years of continuous culture, it’s time Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People are recognised in Australia’s 122-year-old Constitution. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People want recognition in a practical form by having a say on issues and policies that impact their lives.
That’s why the AEU is advocating for a yes vote at the upcoming referendum. This referendum is an opportunity for all Australians to come together and contribute to building a stronger, fairer nation.
This course explores the first of these proposed reforms: enshrining an Indigenous Voice to Parliament in the Australian Constitution.
Here you will find links to information, opinion and perspective on the Referendum from Tasmanian, National and International perspectives that will be curated over coming months with an emphasis on maintaining a collection of critical, balanced and reliable sources.
