Tasmanian and Federal Labor Parties have kicked off the new school year with some major announcements and commitments to public education.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten announced his full commitment to implementing Gonski and, in Tasmania, the Labor Opposition says it will reverse the Hodgman Government education cuts.

Both announcements are very welcome and we now need bi-partisan support for both.

Education must be above politics – it’s too important. And no matter our differences we can all agree that every child deserves the best start in life.

Help encourage the Prime Minister to get on board sign this petition for Mr Turnbull.

In Tasmania, in 2014, the Hodgman Government cut 250 teaching and other staff, and $148 million from education. Schools are worse off now than they were two years ago.

You as teachers, principals and support staff do amazing work in tapping into the learning potential of each child but we know too many kids are being held back because of Government cuts and underfunding.

We look forward to working with the State Government to secure bi-partisan support for repairing cuts, and securing Gonski support from the Prime Minister, so that every child has the tailored learning support and rich experiences needed to thrive.
