Branch Councillors form the supreme decision making body of the AEU. Branch Council represents all regions of Tassie and it meets every Term to debate, discuss and endorse policy. Councillors represent you so you’re strongly encouraged to share your views, ideas and proposals for motions with them.

Let’s meet Sam Fogg, Branch Councillor in General Division, North West.

Meet Sam from Nixon Street Primary, Devonport.

Do you have a favourite place? The beach

How did you get into education? It found me

What couldn’t you live without and what are your three favourite things? Can’t live without a coffee in the morning. Cricket, football and my family.

Thinking about your workplace, if you had a magic wand what would you wish for? Less stress and more fun.

Why union? Without unions we would still be working 12 hour days, seven days’ a week with no paid holidays, no paid vacations, no pay raises. We still need to ensure that workers are treated fairly in the form of decent pay, decent benefits, and so on.

How do you like to wind down and relax? Lay back with a cold one and watch T.V or read a book.

Are you a reader? If so, what are you currently reading? Yes, I love sport biographies. I am currently reading Chris Judd.

If you could invite anyone to dinner, who would it be and what would you eat? Stephen Hawking and I would probably have a steak.

What’s a defining moment in your life? The birth of my twins.

Give us a tip about dealing with kids. You will have limited behavioural issues if you respect them and show a genuine interest in what they do and who they are.

Who inspires you? Muhammad Ali, Albert Einstein and Martin Luther King.

Why did you become a Councillor? I wanted to contribute to important political decisions that are made to improve public education.

What is it about working with kids that gets you out of bed each morning? Knowing that I do make a difference.

What do you daydream about? Lazing about on a secluded beach with an endless supply of coldies.
