  • Extend in-class support to ASTs and APs in line with their teaching load.
  • Simplify the AST and AP recruitment process so that applications are the same as for principal positions (1000 words and extended CV).
  • Ensure AST and AP staffing allocations for schools are equitable, adequate to meet school needs and support sustainable AST and AP workloads.
  • Simplify access to higher duty allowances where an AP or AST is deputising in a principal’s absence.
  • Provide training in operational areas such as HR and finance so that APs and ASTs have the skills to meet the demands of their role.
