How our union works:
AEU members elect our own leaders from within our membership – we’re proudly member led and run by educators, for educators.
Our Branch Council is your union’s peak decision-making body. Our Branch Executive is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the union and is the employer of your AEU staff team. It is led by our Branch President, along with general members and representatives from each of our four Sector Councils. Our Sector Councils represent members from our key professional groups across public education – see below.
That’s how we build a strong, united voice for every profession and every corner of our state. Help strengthen it by getting involved.
Our four sectors:
DoE Sector (DECYP)
ⓘ DECYP employees covered by the Teaching Service Award and who are not based in a Secondary College.
Support Staff Sector
ⓘ Education Support Personnel not covered by the Teaching Service Award, e.g. Teacher Assistants, Laboratory Technicians, Aboriginal Education, Youth Workers, Library Technicians covered by the Tasmanian State Service Award.
Secondary Colleges Sector
ⓘ Teacher members who are based in Don College, Hellyer College, Elizabeth College, Rosny College, Claremont College, Hobart College, Newstead College or Launceston College.
TAFE Division
ⓘ Members who work in TasTAFE or Libraries Tasmania (formerly LINC) whose work is incidental to the provision of Adult Education programs.
Our democratic structures are set out under the AEU’s rules.
